STORY-TIME|| HOW THE GRINCH STOLE MY CHRISTMAS

CHRISTMAS
HEY GUYS AND HAPPY BOXING DAY!!! I had a lovely time yesterday and I hope you did also. It’s so nice to eat and have a nice time with the family, to be honest. Now there was this Christmas where I had otherwise which is what today’s post is about. My Instagram peeps voted that I do a storytime post, so let’s start the story
CHRISTMASThis happened in about 2005 0r 2006 not sure, I was about 6 or 7 yrs old (yeahhhh I’m that young) and as an Igbo girl, my family normally travels to our village which is in Imo state. So this faithful year my lovely dad decided we should travel on the 25th, Christmas day. We left Ibadan very early about 7:00 am for the 8 hours journey. the journey was lit with bread and akara, banana, music and loads of gist till (please give me soundtrack) Ghen ghen ghen!!! We got to the beautiful city of Asaba and then the world stopped because I refuse to call what we saw a traffic jam. Suddenly cars weren’t moving as we approached the famous Niger bridge.  We joined the traffic with faith that we will move. Like joke like joke we turned off the car and remained on a spot. We gradually move like every 10 mins till we got to the bridge and stayed on one spot for 2hrs!!!!! Like, guys, we stayed on a spot with car off for 2hrs!!!! and spent a total of 4hrs on the bridge.

Now within the 4hrs, a lot happened. First of all, I wanted to pee and I was stuck in the middle of the bridge. Then came the heat and we had to turn off the car so, therefore, no AC. Following the heat was thirst and the water we carried was already hot. Glory to God, we found a pure water hawker with some dead cold water but oh readers of mine the water was 50 naira!!!!!!!! (yes I’m shouting) In 2006, you are selling pure water (sachet water) for 50 naira!!!! We ended up drinking hot water. When I thought it was over, not too far from us a car’s fuel tank started leaking. At that point I was ready to run before any explosion happens, I was really scared but Glory to God it was fixed.
The funny part was when Igbo people starting jamming out loud on the road and greeting each other like I was in awe. Then the whole Christmas finished when we heard that the bridge was collapsing because there were too many cars on it for long and I believed because it’s Nigeria. You guys the 4 hrs I spent on the bridge was epic and I don’t wish it for anybody.
To cut the long story short, we left the bridge we entered when it was bright at night and I got to my lovely village at midnight. Sadly we had to clean the house before sleeping because it had been locked for a whole year. That lovely year, I spent Christmas on the road and boxing day cleaning.
Yasss!!!! That’s how the Grinch stole my Christmas as a young child. I hope you enjoyed my story and please share your not so good Christmas memories, I want to laugh more. I love you guys and untill next blog post …
