Hello Readers. So good to witness another Saturday ..the weekend is here!!. I hope your week went well. I did a whole of reading this week and I must say I learnt a lot.
During the week I found some pictures of me when I was younger and it brought back so many memories which led to this blog post. I really love telling stories in person so I mean..why not tell stories too on my blog. So lean back, keep reading and enjoy.
I was a little girl, about three or four years old living on Akede street. On this street we had this guy who came around shouting “OYIN” like almost every day. He was selling honey. I’m guessing one of his major customers lived on the street. As a young igbo girl who didn’t know anything about Yoruba, I thought he was calling my name. Well, Onyin (short for Onyinyechi) and Oyin sound alike plus most Yoruba people called me Oyin. I got curious, like really, why would a man be shouting my name like four times a week on my street?
Now, my siblings and my Aunt seeing that I didn’t exactly know who the man was tricked me to believing that he was a kidnapper and was looking for me.
The more he called my name, the more my fear grew. Every time I heard “Oyin”, I ran inside the house to hide (oh he disturbed my playtime outside). It was bad. I couldn’t even peep outside to see what the man looked like.
Instead of my darling siblings to simple tell who exactly the man was after seeing my fear, they went further to take advantage of my ignorance. My whole life became ONYINYECHI!!! If you don’t do this or that I will call Oyin (that was the only suitable name for the man tho).
There came a day that I decided to form tough, I said I wouldn’t doing anything even after their threat. Hmmm (tear drops)…..to cut the long story short, I cried that day like never before because Oyin actually passed by and my aunt actually did go out to call him.
So guys Ignorance can kill oh, well in my case I didn’t die. Only if I knew that the innocent man was just selling honey maybe by now I will be fatter because I worked during that period. Also don’t take advantage of anyone’s ignorance, no matter the age.
I really hope you guys have a wonderful weekend. I’ll continue doing my reading this weekend. I have a new category coming up soon. Would love to know your thoughts on the story and your plans for the weekend. So please comment below and subscribe if you haven’t.
Stay happy.

I’m really laughing here. I had a similar experience with a man who lived on my street too.

I did that to my siblings too, that’s one the perk of being an older sibling.
